The idea

The idea behind ‘Aroe’ started around 2008, after a premium food exhibition in France.

The vision

Our vision has been to produce and age vinegars and condiments of great gastronomic value from indigenous varieties. After various experimentations, we focused our efforts on Mavrodaphne, an indigenous Greek red grape variety that contributes in the famous dessert P.D.O. wine. We realized that it could attribute to a full bodied, balanced, sweet and sour condiment with great ageing potential.

The premises

We moved to our new premises in 2012, whereas, end of 2013, our first bottles were shipped.

The name

To honor Patras, the city we are located at, we decided to name the company ‘Aroe’ (Αρόη). Aroe derives from the word ‘arosis’ (Άροσις), which means fertile land and has given its name to a suburb of Patras for more than 18th centuries.
